Sumaia and Belly Dance! Studio Present:
THE STAR OF THE SHOW COMPETITION
November 19th at El Morocco Restaurant
2203 Morello Ave, Pleasant Hill CA
The Star of the Show Competition is the premier competition that showcases the artistry and dedication of working, professional dancers. While some dancers believe that the art of belly dance only belongs on stage, the reality is that this dance is unique to any other. Belly dancers are the glittering star of the evening; they are there to bring joy and excitement to any occasion and celebration. In this scenario, it is often times that these dancers are the general publics first encounter with belly dance. This is a huge responsibility! These dancers must represent the art form in in the highest possible manner. From training, being current on cultural and dance trends, the use of props, professional costuming and makeup, and many other demands. The general public will not likely see belly dance on a stage, instead they will be exposed to the art when a dancer is hired for an event or celebration, or by going to a Middle Eastern club, or by visiting a restaurant like the famous El Morocco Restaurant. This is where this competition will be held.
This competition will not only challenge the dancers’ skill and showmanship, but also their ability to interact with an intimate crowd. The judges will be among the patrons, there will be waiters serving food, and the dancer will be required to dance amongst the tables as well as perform on the main dance area.
