Class Descriptions
Beginning/Mixed Level Classes These classes are suitable for beginners but welcome for all who want to come brush up their technique. We follow the same format as a regular beginning class, however we move at a little faster pace. What we have found that most people love this format to make you feel like you are dancing, get a little cardio exercise all while learning this beautiful dance!
Beginning Classes - In these classes our focus in on the fundamentals of belly dance; posture, isolations and footwork. Then we apply these movements to music so the student can learn musicality, transitions and timing. Each teacher is different and has a slightly different approach to drilling and breaking down. These classes are the best for absolute beginners.
Mixed Level Classes/Fitness Classes - In these classes we spend less time breaking down each movement and more time dancing to the music. There may be longer combinations to drill and repeat, or some intermediate movement vocabulary may be introduced. Other concepts introduced will be stylezation and cultural background on certain movements and music. These classes are a full hour of dancing and great exercise.
Choreography/Combination Classes- These classes will focus on a choreography or long combinations to a specific song. Less stress will be given on breaking down individual moves (unless needed, of course!) and more on the choreography. Learning choreography is particularly helpful for learning transitions, style and fluidity. It's also a great exercise for the brain and body.
Advanced and Troupe Classes - These classes are generally by invitation only, but please reach out if you have any questions or want to try. Usually these classes will be focused on learning a routine, working with props such as veil or finger cymbals, or advanced technique and basic steps will not be broken down.
Children's Belly Dance - In this class, your child we explore and learn movements popular in belly dance in a fun, age appropriate manner. We will focus on hip drops, shimmies and arms, and even work on a short routine! Taryn Tabitha has over 15 years experience with kids, from her career as a preschool teacher, and teaching preschool dance. She is fully LiveScan fingerprinted and vaccinated. Parents are welcome to stay outside the studio as our studio is small.
Props Class -Take advantage of a class dedicated only to props and how to incorporate them into your dance. This class will rotate between all the popular props used in belly dance, including veil, wings and sword. While open to everyone, it is recommended to have some dance experience for this class.
Tunisian Class - This class is taught by Wiem, who is from Tunisia and is trained by experts in this folkloric dance style from North Africa. Tunisian dance has a focus on strong hip work, twists and footwork.
